Below you are going to find out some my best mindset tips on homeschooling and now quarantine schooling. How to be with kids 24/7 without going bonkers!
We have been homeschooling for around the last SIX years and it is NOT for the faint of heart.
So if you have suddenly found yourself quarantine schooling in isolation and you’re not doing it perfectly, THAT’S OK!
Even seasoned homeschoolers are figuring things out. After six years, we’re still trying to make it “work”.
But since we have had the last six years of experiencing doing school at home and having kids around us 24/7 we want to share with you some of our best tips and tricks.
Mindset Trick #1 You ARE Capable
Having a Tough Time?
Don’t feel badly if this is tough in the beginning. Remember that most homeschoolers started this gradually, one child at a time. We weren’t thrust into homeschooling every child, of all different levels, all at once.
We also have always had to go out and have field trips and meet with other people. Homeschooling doesn’t happen in isolation.
Feeling Unqualified and Overwhelmed?
One of the greatest lies is that parents need to be qualified to teach.
First of all, you are the perfect teacher for your kids.
Not only do we see this in the Bible (Deuteronomy 6), but also in our normal day to day life.
After all, who taught your kids how to walk? Talk? Cook scrambled eggs?
Probably you, right?
We are living in an online age FULL of resources, tutorials, courses and tutors!
Mindset Trick #2 – Your Home is NOT A School
In Deuteronomy 6:7 we see God telling parents that teaching happens EVERYWEHERE.
“Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Therefore, allow yourself to be flexible!
Education and learning aren’t just happen at desks. It happens on the floor, or jumping up and down at the table. It not limited to the 45min to 90 minute time frame.
Change it up and most importantly, make learning work for your family.
Mindset Trick #3 – This is ONLY a Season
Life will go on, and most likely your kids will be back in school in the foreseeable future, that’s a big difference between homeschooling and quarantine schooling.
That being said, I encourage you to (as best as you can!) use this time for the good of your family.
Read stories, spend slow time together, learn hobbies and crafts together, work outside in the garden, go on boring walks.
